Scholarships

Eligibility & Qualifications

1. Must be a citizen and/or legal resident of the United States of America and of Hispanic heritage.
2. Must be a resident of Lake County, Illinois, for (1) one year.
   
3. Must be a graduating high school senior, a post high school graduate, or a person with college credit now attending college or planning to return to college as an undergraduate.
   
4. Community college applicants may be enrolled in majors transferable to a four-year institution offering a baccalaureate degree or in an associate’s degree program at that community college.
   
5. Must enroll as a full-time student for 12 credit hours or more.
   
6. Must complete all requirements listed on application. Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
   
7. Must use scholarship by the semester of the academic year following the award.
   
8. Scholarship money will be paid directly by the American GI Forum to the student upon receipt of formal registration and class schedule.
   
9. Scholarship recipient must supply American GI Forum of Lake County follow-up receipts, semester or quarter transcript of grades, and a letter of progress in order to qualify for future scholarship awards.
   
10. Attach a recent photograph and a signed release of information form.
    
11. Dependent students must include a copy of parents’ IRS Form 1040.
    
12. Independent students must include a copy their recent IRS Form 1040.
